About Us

The Washington Public Microschool Collaborative supports school districts in designing and launching public microschools—small, personalized learning communities within existing schools.

This work is part of a broader effort to advance public education so it aligns with modern developmental science—how young people grow, learn, and develop into capable, thriving adults in a rapidly changing world.

In partnership with districts, we focus on what is both research-aligned and system-realistic: models that operate within existing schools, staffing, and funding structures while meaningfully improving student experience and outcomes.

This is not a separate system.
It is a practical path to evolve the one we already have.

Aligning Public Education with How Children Actually Learn

Student well-being is not separate from how school is designed—it reflects it.

There is a better way forward.

The Washington Public Microschool Collaborative and the Washington Youth Mental Health & Public School Promise Initiative—projects of the Center for Inspired Learning—are working to redesign public education around what research and practice show young people need to thrive.
